  Mike has enjoyed working on a wide variety of professional productions as a Camera Operator, Camera Assistant, Set Dresser, Photographer, 3rd Assistant Director, Production Unit Manager, Production Assistant, Gaffer, and BTS Photographer.

He has also begun leading projects as a Producer and Director; currently working on a Documentary set for release in May 2024. Mike has enjoyed producing visual media for Big Smoke Brass’ album Houseparty, working with the Grand Slam of Curling to bring high quality features to the forefront of curling media, and working on a plethora of productions as a valued crew member.

Mike is actively seeking opportunities working in the camera department, art department, and in production. He is excited to continue learning about visual storytelling and making growing industries such as sport, music, artistry, and environmental sustainability through cinematic and impactful visual media. HOUSE PARTY - BIG SMOKE BRASS EP, CREATIVE DIRECTION

I worked alongside Toronto’s Big Smoke Brass to develop the creative direction and stylized look behind all of their album media for their EP ‘House Party’. This work ranged from Album Artwork design and promotional photography, to planning a full live-set production to tease their single ‘Lizzo’. This live-set shoot opened a window of opportunity to capture matching vertical video for Spotify Canvas’ which successfully continue telling the story that the live set begins, leaving opportunity for a music down the line.

Directing a number of DP’s and video editors, I was able to use a multitude of filming styles and camera angles to tell a visually cohesive story that kept viewers engaged and interested. With the live-set acting as a ‘Media Day’ for the EP, we were able to capture Spotify Canvases, Promotional Photos, and inspire the design for the album artwork, drawn by myself and animated beautifully by @mr.jackio.

In anticipation of their new EP ‘House Party’ Big Smoke Brass kicks off the party when this ‘recording session’ turns into a full-blown party! Produced and Directed by Mike Cowley.

GRAND SLAM OF CURLING

In my time working with the Grand Slam of Curling, I have enjoyed working on dozens of video features highlighting the top ranked curling teams from around the globe. These cinematic features introduce the worlds best to international audiences via the television broadcast and social media platforms, giving the curlers an opportunity to state their case and establish their voice. While working with GSOC I also help create The Sheet Show with Ben Hebert and a multitude of sponsored segments such as Pinty’s Player Profile. When not creating media for broadcast and social media use, I am running the fun-cam pregame and assisting in all in-venue media operations.

Curlings most viral video segment; The Sheet Show puts the worlds best curlers to the test as they attempt Niklas Edin’s famous ‘Spinner Shot’ - This edition of the Sheet Show did especially well, reaching international audiences and giving fans insights into how the curlers interact with eachother outside of competition.
