ROB GF
ROB GF is an unapologetic Toronto rapper thriving on his own energy. This Italian-Canadian (shout-out Gabagool Gang!) artist continues to push the envelope on creation with slick beats flying off the shelves. The high energy star will surely grab your attention when you’re scrolling by.. and through his loud personality and lyricism, you’re sure to stick around!
His latest full length project titled Gool Will Hunting has fans excited about what next, keeping them hungry for more… which is a good thing since ROB GF is dropping singles quicker than Kraft.
I took some time to ask ROB GF about the gear he’s procured and uses to create, entertain, and make his own happy. Check out his answers and some photos we took below!
Q: What do you create with your gear? What kind of artist are you?
“I like rap music, and make a lot of RnB music. Sometimes I make hybrid Punk/Rap music. I’m an artist that believes the perfect artist is one that can reinvent his/her self. One that sees no genre boundary. I am a prolific creator and a creative junky.”
“I’M A RAPPER THAT GOT TIRED OF WAITING AROUND AND JUST STARTED PRODUCING HIS OWN SHIT. ANYTHING IS ACHIEVABLE WHEN YOU PUT YOUR HEART AND MIND TO IT.”
“Usually I start with a main instrument. I often go with my Emenee Vintage Organ. I’ll use the SauceWear plug-in to beef what I’ve played up. Without my toys I’d be lost... Even this little Kazoo I have creates such unique sounds I can tweak digitally” – Rob.GF
Q: What is your relationship with your gear?
“Every morning I get out of my bed and put on my robe, come into my studio room, put my fingers on my Keystation, and I instantly feel at peace. When I was younger we had J Armz Mixtapes, download beats from YouTube. Eventually I got my first digital piano, and the ability to create my own instruments.”
Q: What was your first piece of gear?
“My first piece of gear was my 2010 Macbook pro. That thing helped me make probably the song to get my signed by Universal Records… before that Macbook I was was broke and had no way of recording self sufficiently. I had to pay for studio time. Shoutout J Chau for blessing me back in the day.”
Q: What is your favourite piece / type of gear you use now?
“Honestly probably my Neuman Microphone, best thing I ever got. Vocals are the most important thing in my opinion. Next to that my favourite thing would probably be a VST, not even a physical piece of gear, my Triton… there’s too many crazy presets on that shit.”
Q: Give your favourite piece of gear a review.
“Ima go with a VST, my favourite shit this Triton by Korg, again theres tooooooo many good presets, and if you have a good imagination, anything is achievable.
They added a lot of good warm autotune analog sounds, in love with some of the choir presets and I think I use to cheat and shit cause I luv 2 throw the Neuman mic in there, warmest vocals in the game."
Triton ★★★★★ - 5 stars
Neuman Mic ★★★★★★ - 6 stars lol
