Paul Kim is a creative soul who see’s the art and design in whatever he looks at. When I met Paul in the ninth grade (wow ten years ago!), he seemed to be one of my only friends who truly enjoyed schooling and learning, it wasn’t until diving deeper during this interview that I learned the why and how behind Paul’s drive for exploration and understanding within education and creation.

As a successful architectural designer, a gallery-featured painter/artist, and a creative thinker, I was curious as to what ‘gear’ Paul would want to focus on for this series. My jaw is still on the floor after hearing Paul reply “maybe my tools?” when asked what gear best facilitates his happiness, but his answers and explanations below make it crystal clear! – Mike Cowley

A massive thank you to longtime friend Paul for diving head first into this Gear-Head series! I love seeing what sparks joy in people and learning about the gear, tools, and skillsets required to achieve that joy and happiness through whatever style of art, creation or exercise they may be perusing. Happiness comes in all shapes and sizes and is facilitated differently for everyone, find what brings you joy.

Paul’s restored 1980’s motorcycle is a great visual representation of the opportunity that can be created from his tools and the benefits that can come from his work and learning, aka he now has a sweet motorcycle to enjoy!

A final thank you to our friends at Aden Camera for sponsoring this rendition of Gear-Head. They do incredible work, provide the fastest film processing services in the GTA, probably Canada, maybe North America, and they are filled with quality people who care about the equipment they sell and the people they sell too. I cannot recommend them enough!
