“Analog Hardware ⮕ Digital Joy”
Q: How does your gear facilitate your art / creative process?
“My gear separates mundane work and fun work. It changes moving my mouse to turning a physical dial. It changes a software based filter into a piece of hardware. My gear facilitates warmth, life, and digital joy.”
Q: What is your
relationship with your gear?
“I love the look of old tech. I got into retro VFX purely because I wanted to justify owning old tv’s and computers. My relationship with my gear is primarily physical >:)”
“My first piece of gear that fostered my creativity was the HTC Vive; my first VR headset. It was the first thing that made me think ‘I can work with this for the rest of my life".’ It was instrumental in my shift from science to art.”
Review your favourite piece of gear:
“My AV Panasonic Mixer is the best! It was originally designed to teach students about broadcasting. It’s basically a physical representation of After Effects. It has the added bonus of consolidating all of my retro gear. It’s the most physically attractive object I own. Period.”
“My AV Panasonic Mixer is the best!”
“The Panasonic mixer is like if a Star Trek control board had sex with an 80’s music VFX team. Loses a point cuz it’s missing STAR WIPE ★ 4/5”
@mr_jackio
A big thanks to Jack for taking the time to show me around his studio space and introduce me to his process. I can already tell ya that he’s upgraded his systems since this shoot, and theres a good chance a Gear-Head x Mr.Jackio 2.0 will be on the way… perhaps.. video format?
STAY TUNED AND THANKS FOR STOPPING BY!
